[ Now that he's close enough, he reaches up to tug the brim of Sholmes' hat down over his eyes a little. Apparently, the playful mood is catching. ]

Now, fun as that was, no more shenanigans.

[Wow!! His cap suddenly obscures his vision, and he drops his hands.]

"Shenanigans?" Who is pulling shenanigans now? I retract my compliment to you, dear fellow.

[gunmettle]

No takebacks, Herlock. You said I was a genius. I'm gonna remember that.

[retroductions]

Geniuses do not blind other geniuses with their headgear.

They tie 'em up with string instead?

[Pokes his brim up so he can see again, blond hair mussed.]

Precisely! I do not make the rules, Juzo.

[he's totally making up this rule]

I think you do. I think you're makin' 'em up right now.

[retroductions]

[Sholmes smiles, reaching out to grab at the slack of string between them, as though threatening to wrap them together a second time… But instead, he only reaches out with his free hand and clasps it around Juzo’s.]

And yet you humor me… at least half of the time! But I suppose I will relent just this once. No more tangles.

[gunmettle]

[ Juzo is frankly ready for more shenanigans - and he would not have minded it so much if they were to occur - but instead he gets a warm hand in his own. He curls his fingers around Sholmes' readily, his expression warming almost instantly. ]

I humor you a lot, actually. Think that's what happens when you love someone.

[retroductions]

[Oh. Hearing that is like an arrow to the heart — in the best way possible. Debilitating in how warm it makes him feel. Good heavens, he thinks, what is he? A lovestruck teenager?

Cheekbones flushing a little pinker.]

How easily you say that, Juzo. I’m…

[Goodness, he’s but a Victorian man. An unorthodox one, but a Victorian man nonetheless. Warn him first!]

I’ll just have to humor your strange and silly notions, too, to prove my love in equal measure.

[gunmettle]

[ Normally, Juzo wouldn't be nearly so open, even to someone he's close to. The one-two punch of having everyone run through his heart in a mad dash to save him and these threads putting his feelings on full display has made it easier.

And worth it, he thinks, watching as color rises to Sholmes' cheeks, seeing him smile like that. ]

Hope you know I'm gonna remember that, too.

[retroductions]

[Look at the two of them. Gross.

Laughs again, but this one is lighter than usual.]

You have the word of a great detective. I'll not let you forget.

[gunmettle]

Good.

[ Juzo can't blush, but the look on his face is much the same as Sholmes', and again he's reminded of how nice it is that the other man can see that. ]

Walk with me for a while? Just try not to get tangled up.

[retroductions]

[Oh yes, he can see that just fine. It's just as pleasant of a sight as the color of their string.]

Very well. I will do my best not to entangle us again. Come!

[Grasping his hand still, Sholmes leads the way. Where are they going? Nowhere in particular. Does it matter? Not at all.]
